All visitors to the Schwartz Crafted studio must follow all safety rules and agree to the terms and conditions. Safety rules include, but are not limited to:
- Follow directions. Listen to all instructions, warnings, and advice from staff at the studio. Read and follow all posted directions and warnings.
- Do not go places that you shouldn’t. Stay in the large studio room inside and on walkways and parking areas outside unless you have permission to go in other areas.
- Avoid clay dust. Exposure to clay dust over a long period of time is bad for your lungs. Avoid sweeping, brushing, pounding or blowing any surface containing dry clay or clay dust.
- Control your body. No running, leaping, jumping, or horseplay in the studio. Watch where you are going while moving. Provide plenty of space to other people in the studio.
- Dress properly at all times. Tie back long hair, remove all jewelry, roll up or remove loose clothing, etc.
- Do not lift large or heavy items such as boxes of clay, large projects, full buckets, or equipment yourself. Ask for help.
- Kilns are hot. Do not touch kilns or related equipment.
- Do not put anything into slab rollers, extruders or other equipment that does not belong. Including your hands or fingers!
- Turn off and unplug all equipment before adjusting or cleaning it.
- Some tools are sharp or hot. Do not push, point, wave, stab, swipe, slash, or poke these tools at yourself or other people.
- Do not stand or climb on anything in the studio. If you need something from a high shelf, ask for help.
- Wear personal protective equipment properly at all times for required activities. Wear goggles, gloves, and a respirator mask while mixing chemicals. Wear heat protective gloves and face shield while near a kiln.
- Use all materials appropriately. Do not splash, throw, fling or ingest any materials, including clay, glaze, or chemicals.
- Do not eat or drink near work areas.
